This Understanding by Design Unit / Lesson Plan was prepared for fourth grade computer students at New Hope Christian Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, but may be easily adapted for older students.

The unit integrates core curricular content in science and math with instruction in essential technology skills, emphasizing the use of technology as a tool for learning and productivity. The integration of scientific analyses of data and key mathematical concepts (averages and graphical representation of data) with procedural instruction in the use of spreadsheet applications helps students develop deep and lasting understandings of both core curricular and technology objectives.
